Annie Schien, MEd, is an educator, trainer, coach, curriculum writer, and social and emotional learning consultant. She currently works with the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence, training teachers in the RULER Approach and coaching schools in their ongoing implementation. She has worked in education in California as a first grade and TK teacher. It was as a classroom educator that she brought SEL to life, and worked on the district’s SEL implementation team.
With her experience in SEL, a cornerstone of her practice has become to build adults’ social and emotional skills to promote positive school climates and more impactfully teach SEL to students. It was out of this principle, her SEL consulting business, Grow YourSELf was born.
Annie received her B.A. from Sonoma State University in Art History and her Masters of Education in Educational Psychology from the University of Missouri. Annie completed a two-year Teacher Leadership certificate program through the University of California, Davis which inspired her to shift into supporting educators and leaders in implementing systemic SEL. Annie has served as a curriculum designer, writer, and research analyst for SEL Consulting Collaborative.
Annie lives in Sonoma County with her husband and daughters. She is passionate about educating kids, parents, and communities and working with educators to cultivate authentic and impactful systemic change in schools.
